The Rich History of Husqvarna dirt bikes

Husqvarna dirt bike is one of the most popular choices for riders out there – no doubt about that! This motorcycle brand has withstood the test of time and stayed on the top of the game as the ride-of-choice for many track champions. As the oldest motorcycle manufacturer with uninterrupted production over the years, there is a lot to learn about this brand that has been a cult favourite for decades.

Husqvarna is a Swedish brand with a rich history, and it might be a surprise for many bikers that they weren’t always fulfilling the dirt riding dreams. In fact, the company was founded in 1689 (yeah, we’re serious!) as a manufacturer of weapons like muskets and riffles. Since then, it has been producing other non-related items like kitchen appliances, sewing machines and many more.

In 1903, as motorcycles began to become a thing, they hopped on producing two-wheeled rides. Well… it looked more like a motorised bicycle back then. It was their connection with providing products for the Swedish Army and participating in racing events around Europe that really began to sow the seeds of their legacy.

A new form of motorcycle sport became popular in post-war Europe. By 1953, races were being organised across the continent, with the lightweight and easy-to-adapt single-cylinder Husqvarna road bikes fast becoming a popular choice for off-road use.

High-performance and innovative approach were the core values of Husqvarna even back then, and that’s how they came up with the iconic Silverpilen, the model for heavy off-road use. This bike became an iconic model at 75kg weight and with a telescopic fork, hydraulic dampers, and frame-mounted engine. At the time of its release in the market, the Silverpilen, meaning ‘silver arrow’ in native Swedish language, was revolutionary.

In 1959, the famous racer Rolf Tibblin became the first motocross champion on a 250cc Husqvarna dirt bike. This was just before the golden age in the 60s and 70s, when off-roading became the company’s claim to ultimate fame. Husqvarna built their fame for its fast and tough rides for years.

2013 saw one of the most historic reunions in motorcycle history when Pierer Industries purchased Husqvarna Motorcycles. This helped to return the company to its glorious beginnings and since then, Husky dirt bikes have been as great as ever.

One last thing… Even though we deeply love Huskies, there’s nothing worse than a plain, unimaginative, stock ride. Once you’ve committed to one of the great Husqvarna dirt bikes, you’ll want to personalise your ride with custom dirt bike graphics. That’s where OMX Graphics comes in with a broad spectrum of fully and semi custom Husqvarna dirt bike graphics to make your ride truly stand out.
