How to Install Your GASGAS motocross Graphics Kit?
When it comes to GASGAS graphics kits, there are only two important steps. First of them – choose a trustworthy MX decals producer, like OMX Graphics. Second – make sure you install them the right way. So here’s the right way to do things.
- Prepare the surface – This is probably the biggest mistake people make when installing graphic kits for dirt bikes. Even if they have an older bike they just dust off the surface a bit and assume it’s ready to go. It’s not. Even if the bike is straight from the showroom floor there’s still a chance it has greasy fingerprints, dirt and some level of grime on it. So before you do anything else put down the dirt bike graphics kit and go get a bucket of clean water and a soft cloth.
- Wipe down every surface that is going to receive a graphic. Let it dry completely.
- Mix a mild degreaser like dishwashing liquid with some warm water. Then go back over everything in order to remove any trace of grease and grime. Again, let it dry thoroughly
- Are there any places that previously hosted a GASGAS decal and you were not able to completely peel it off? Get some 400 sandpaper, wet it, and sand the areas where the sticker or adhesive remains. Don’t push too hard or sand areas that don’t really need it.
- When you’re finished sanding, wash down the area again using the degreaser. Make sure you don’t leave any fingerprint residue behind. Keep in mind it has to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.
NOW TO THE FUN PART – UNBOXING
- Unbox the GASGAS dirt bike stickers and lay them out next to the bike to give you an idea of what goes where. You’d be surprised how many people skip this step. They wind up trying to put a graphic on a part of the bike where it doesn’t belong. Looks like everything is laid out? Pick up the individual pieces and see how they fit against the part of the bike where they’ll be installed. If you like you can tack them up with a small piece of tape.
- Easy stuff first – Installing custom graphics for dirt bikes isn’t as easy as it seems. The best way to insure success is to start with the easiest pieces. Those would be the ones that are applied to the broadest, flattest surfaces. Hold the graphic up to the surface and do a dry run where you practice how you’re going to apply the piece. Keep a close eye on things. Does it seem like the graphic is not square to the surface or is bunching up? Stop, pull back gently and start over. Once the graphic is in place you can use a squeegee to level out air pockets or small bumps.
- Move on to the harder stuff – By the time you’re done installing the easy parts you’ll have a better feel for the material and should be ready to tackle the tougher pieces. If you have some fairly significant creases or bumps and lumps try using a hair dryer to soften the material a bit. Then use thumb pressure to smooth things out. Put the dryer on medium and don’t get it too close to the surface.
- The gas tank – The gas tank can be tricky because gas fumes can undermine the integrity of the plastic film. So make sure the tank is empty and leave the cap off overnight.
